Just as a status update, but this is nearly complete - all of the core functionality has been implemented but it needs real-world testing and the MSBuild targets need to get shipped with a monotouch release. Once that happens, users will be able to opt in to using the MSBuild engine instead of the current build engine to build their iOS projects.
Once the kinks get ironed out, we'll switch to using the MSBuild engine by default.
