Description Harry May 2016-01-30 22:33:24 UTC
when building (any branch) on arm64 the file:

#include "../../../../mono-extensions/mono/arch/arm64/arm64-codegen.h"

but this link does not exist, and make stops with an error message.

Since a package "mono-extensions" does not exist, this #include statement may be wrong.

arm64 support in mono is currently not OSS.
Comment 2 Eduard Bloch 2016-04-02 17:16:20 UTC
Seriously, NO. I don't consider this answer a resolution and it's not a proper answer.

A proper solution would be adding a comment there, or in the installation docs, explaining why the arm64 support is missing, and probably where one can obtain the required extension. The extension seems to exist and to be available on the OS-X products of Xamarin (actually, of Microsoft's new Mono division, SCNR).

it works !
the actual version 4.5.0 compiles without any problem on a arm64 machine
Comment 4 Eduard Bloch 2016-04-04 16:44:42 UTC
Seriously, I have hard times believing that. Just tested, with an aarch64 crosscompiler (some Yocto SDK) and http://download.mono-project.com/sources/mono/nightly/mono- :

  CC       mono-networkinterfaces.lo
In file included from ../../mono/utils/mono-stack-unwinding.h:10:0,
                 from ../../mono/utils/mono-threads.h:14,
                 from mono-mmap.c:36:
../../mono/utils/mono-context.h:288:43: fatal error: mono/arch/arm64/arm64-codegen.h: No such file or directory
 #include <mono/arch/arm64/arm64-codegen.h>
compilation terminated.
Comment 5 Harry May 2016-04-04 17:25:53 UTC
it really works.
But you need to get it from the right sources.

I did this on an Odroid-C2 and an Lemaker HiKey (both 64 bit Ubuntu, and both work well):

git clone git://github.com/mono/mono.git
cd mono
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local
sudo make install

and mono works.
I have it running till 2 days on 64 bit and it works without any problems.

Confirming that a build from git is possible (using monolite to bootstrap).

arm64-codegen.h exists in both the master and branch-4.5.0-branch branches,
but appears to have been stripped from the nightlies...
Comment 7 Zoltan Varga 2016-04-30 03:28:55 UTC
Should be fixed by mono master 096d2488cc881406443331df5050ec8e87ab335b.
