It would be useful to provide a supported and easy to use version of Sharpen with MfA. A GUI and command line tool would be nice, with option to convert 1+ .java files or an entire Eclipse project. Sharpen is powerful, but cumbersome to setup, especially for .NET only developers who do not use Eclipse.
I'm quite against the idea to support Sharpen in our product as an official feature.
First, we offer Java binding project that should make it to bring Java library features to our world.
Second, it takes a lot of development effort to make it to happen, and we should NOT spend a lot of our development resource on it. Working on some big feature means we lose other precious features to achieve.
Third, it is always possible to create third-party addins on the IDEs as well as adding extra MSBuild tasks to insert build steps. I believe third party plugin is the best option to achieve this feature.
Lastly, sharpen not developed actively anymore.
Therefore I'm closing this bug for bugzilla health sanity. If you believe there is strong reason Xamarin, not anyone else, should develop this, please reopen and continue here, we'd be happy to hear that. Thanks for the feedback!
