Windows log

Since the 15.4 update, my iOS simulator no longer works. It starts up on my Windows machine, seemingly connects to the device, but remains blank (screenshot attached). I have attached the log from my Windows machine at %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Xamarin\Logs\Xamarin.Simulator. However, my Mac does not output any log at ~\Library\Logs\Xamarin\Simulator.Server.

I've also noticed that code changes are not picked up unless I rebuild. This is true both in VS and VS4M.

Desperate for some help here.

OK, I've added a bunch more info. I should have noted that if I turn off the remoted simulator, it starts up fine on my Mac. Indeed, I've been using VNC in the interim to get around this problem.

However, I also found (upon John Miller's recommendation) that XCode wanted to install "additional components". Once I did this, it also now remotes correctly to my Windows machine.

Comment 7 John Miller [MSFT] 2017-11-28 13:47:33 UTC
Thanks for confirming Kent. This is a known issue filed in a private bug. There is a plan to investigate what can be done to detect that Xcode needs to install additional components before this will work successfully.

I'm not going to mark this a duplicate since the main issue is private, but I will leave a comment on that bug pointing to this one.
