asset catalogue in xamarin studio

xamarin studio : 6.3
when u try to create an app icon file inside the asset catalog
No option or place to put the app store icon 1024x1024 - its missing not available

however u can open the same project via visual studio 7.2.2, u open the assest catalog, you can see a placeholder for the app store icon.

what I had to do is open and edit the asset catalog from visual studio. yet still it doesn't display properly as it shows some files are missing.(when u open it in xamarin studio) xcode 9.0 is installed if that is relevant.
please find attached two screen shoots, one showing the file opened in xamarin studio the other in Visual studio

Hi Rabih,

You will want to update to Visual Studio for Mac to get the latest support for Xamarin.iOS and Xcode. Visual Studio for Mac is the latest version of Xamarin Studio.

If you notice an issue in Visual Studio for Mac when using the asset catalogs, please report an issue via the Help > Report a Problem menu.

hello john,

thanks for your reply, based on what you said, this means the xamarin studio ide is behind now and we should use the VS studio, fair enough
ill migrate to VS, I don't think that any changes are required.

do you think that xamarin studio support will discontinue in the future?
thanks again

HI Rabih,

Visual Studio for Mac is now the recommended IDE for Xamarin developers on Mac. You can read more about that here: https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/95289

Hope that helps!
