I noticed the yellow warning signs on the bottom of my iPad launch images and the bubble tip that states the dimension it's expecting.  I believe the values you're suggesting are incorrect and therefore the warnings are wrong.  Please review the recommend image sizes in the HIG and cross check your values and I think you'll find the mistakes:

The image sizes are also affected by the UIStatusBarHidden key, do you maybe have that enabled?

What image sizes are being recommended and what image sizes are you expecting?

that must be it, I just enabled that option to hide the status bar.  Are you sure this is the correct behavior though as when you resume the application sometimes the Default images shows again but the status bar is visible - probably because I turn the status bar on after the app launches.

Probably nothing to worry about, I was just thinking maybe you were reading the dimensions wrong somewhere or expected something different.
