When I ask for the picture path for taking a camera picture

Are you sure you are using the API as expected?

Here is what I tried on emulator:

Console.WriteLine (Android.OS.Environment.DirectoryDcim);
Console.WriteLine (Android.OS.Environment.DirectoryPictures);
Console.WriteLine (Android.OS.Environment.GetExternalStoragePublicDirectory (Android.OS.Environment.DirectoryPictures));

Also note that the documentation for DIRECTORY_PICTURES say: "Note that this is primarily a convention for the top-level public directory, as the media scanner will find and collect pictures in any directory."

If you still have some code that should work fine with your environment, please post/attach it.

No action on this in almost a year, resolving invalid. Please re-open if you are still experiencing any issues with the DirectoryPictures field.
