It would be great to include functionality that allows cross-platform storing of settings. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than a dictionary that saves and gets info from NSUserDefaults, ISharedPreferences, etc. on the respective platforms.

I would use this in my projects to save a login name, for example, so next time the login name is already filled in.

Otherwise I will have to implement this myself which would be a waste of a good use for the mobile library.

Thanks for this suggestion. The Mobile API is being deprecated in favor of various plugins (which have the equivalent/same API):
 - Contacts: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Contacts
 - Geolocator: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Geolocator
 - Media: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Media

This plugin model has several advantages:
 - Each plugin is independent, and can be updated as such
 - It is no longer an all-or-nothing package
 - Plugins can be mixed/replaced with other plugins that offer similar features

For your specific request for a cross-platform settings API, I would suggest the great Settings Plugin:
 - Source: https://github.com/jamesmontemagno/SettingsPlugin
 - NuGet: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugins.Settings

Thanks for using the Mobile API, and we hope that the new plugin model will enable you to produce even better mobile apps.
