Description Simon Zadra 2012-06-15 08:28:43 UTC

the Android designer does not always refresh button text after editing the string it's bound to in MonoDevelop 3.0.2, also, the GUI editor and code editor sometimes "war" over who writes what, with troublesome consequences.

If you only edit strings in strings.xml and never once touch the button, it will update fine.

However, it will not refresh a string if you clicked on the button in the Designer and edited the string beforehand - even though it's still bound to strings/xyz and you change xyz in strings.xml, it will not then reflect this change in the GUI editor. It will also never change a string in strings.xml when you edit in the GUI editor.

If you then persist in manually saving the edited files one by one, MonoDevelop goes into a loop (as long as you have patience for, anyway) between saving one file and the other one telling you it was overwritten externally, but none of them really updating.

So basically - the two should not be as detached, a change here needs to reflect there - this is pretty unintuitive behaviour.

Kind regards

Forgot to mention: if you save everything and close the project, it will show the unupdated version before closing.

Then when you reopen the project, the string is updated and displayed correctly - so the binding is there and should work.

Kind regards

A fix will be included in upcoming releases.

Today, we have checked this issue with:
XS 4.2.3(build 29)
MFA 4.12.0-1
ML 10.8.5
Window 7

Now Android designer refresh button text after editing string or it's bound in
string.xml file in XS. Hence marking this as Verified.
