Description Jahmai 2017-05-13 10:03:16 UTC
I have a custom LinkerConfiguration.xml which I pass to additional mtouch arguments as --xml=LinkerConfiguration.xml.
In the project it is set to "Copy Always" so that it gets pushed to the mac build host during native compilation.
Since updating to 15.2, I now get the error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\MSBuild\Xamarin\iOS\Xamarin.iOS.Common.targets(747,3): error : Extra linker definitions file '/Users/MyName/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/MyApp/e175bb942192199e7fb50ed09bc33c03/LinkerConfiguration.xml' could not be located.

When looking at that directory, the file is not there, so it seems it's not being copied as in 15.1.

Yet another Xamarin update that breaks the build (there hasn't been a painless update in years and its getting old).

Workaround: Change Build Action from None to Content for LinkerConfiguration.xml.

I suspect this will include it in the .ipa, which isn't desirable, but tolerable.
Comment 3 Emanuel 2017-05-19 14:46:42 UTC
@Jahmai, please do not use "Copy Always", that will force VS to always build the project and to copy that file to the Mac on every build, even if it remains unchanged. Instead you should use "Copy if newer", so the file will be sent to the Mac only if it was changed.

Regarding this issue, you could add the following target at the end of your .csproj file as workaround:
<Target Name="CopyNoneFilesToMacOutputDirectory" AfterTargets="CopyFilesToOutputDirectory">
      <_NoneWithCopyToOutputDirectory Include="@(_NoneWithTargetPath)" Condition="'%(_NoneWithTargetPath.CopyToOutputDirectory)' != ''" />
    <CopyFilesToBuildServer SessionId="$(BuildSessionId)" Files="@(_NoneWithCopyToOutputDirectory)" />

Please, remember to remove this target once you've updated to 15.2.2.
