Description Jonathan Pobst 2012-06-08 15:45:07 UTC
I can't find any documentation for this, but in PLP2 Microsoft has the same issue as MFA for tooltip documentation. Because we ship N copies of Mono.Android.dll, we have to ship N copies of Mono.Android.xml.

Looking at PLP2 reference assemblies, they have replaced the contents of N mscorlib.xml's with a pointer to 1 copy of the documentation, like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<doc redirect="%PROGRAMFILESDIR%Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETPortable\v4.0\mscorlib.xml" />

Instead of needing 23 full copies of the docs for each profile, they only need 1 full copy and redirect the rest to that 1 copy. If MD supported this, we could do the same for Mono.Android.dll (which is ~35 MB and we have 7 copies of).

Other than %PROGRAMFILESDIR%, I do not know what other magic strings are available. Also, it does not seem to work for relative paths, they have to be absolute paths.

It should work - have you tried it out ?

I've found a little issue - we didn't support relative redirects.
(But I don't know if vs.net does)
