I was diagnosing issues with Eric last week and VS is allowing you to choose a 32bit sim even when the app is set to be 64bit only. XS does filter out incompatible simuators, so VS should do the same. It's a very hard issue to diagnose and to the user it looks like everything is just broken.
CONFIRMING this issue as the behavior in VS4Mac is much more user friendly for filtering out supported and non-supported devices.
