When I start downloading Xamarin Updates in Visual Studio, the download window is in foreground and cannot be minimized to continue coding. Why? I would like to download updates in background and continue coding while it is downloading.
It is not a bug, it has always been like this. Consider it as a feature request.
I'll mark this as a duplicate of enhancement request Bug 43497.
Note that possible improvement "b" from that enhancement request ("integrate all Xamarin updates into the 'Tools > Extensions and Updates > Updates > Product Updates' menu") is in fact now the standard mechanism used by Xamarin for Visual Studio within the VS 2017 RC preview versions, so this is addressed for that new version of Visual Studio. Adding a separate improvement for the old Xamarin updater in VS 2015 and below could still be nice though.
