I was chasing my tail trying to get a resolution to this at #48505, so I'm opening this separate ticket.

As described there, my VS updater has never installed or updated the profiler for me. I wasn't even aware that it was supposed to until I opened #48505. Consequently, I have always had to manually download and install the profiler. This led to versioning problems because I always downloaded latest, not knowing that the profiler version was tied so inextricably to the XVS version.

So I want to get a resolution to the updater problem. To be honest, I can't find any literature anywhere describing what exactly I should see when I do Tools/Options/Xamarin/Other/Check Now. I can tell you, however, that I only ever see one of two things:

1. "Xamarin for Visual Studio is up to date!"
2. An update is available, but only a single item (Visual Studio) is listed. Never profiler.

Please help me resolve this issue.

Hi Kent,

The changes on the updater code to support updating other Xamarin products than Xamarin VS are available only on Alpha/Beta channel of Xamarin VS by now (Xamarin cycle9). So, on one side you need to use a latest build from those channels.

On the other side, the updater works (by now) only updating existing products that has newer versions. That said, you need to have in this case a Profiler installed on your machine to let the Updater analyze if there is any new version for the product.

Finally, we've fixed the annoying versioning issues that forces to have exactly matching versions of Profiler and XVS. So, you should not worry about installing compatible versions.

However, this fix is available in latest versions of Alpha/Beta channel for XVS and from latest versions of Alpha channel for Profiler.

I updated to Cycle 9 yesterday and am relieved to say that my profiler (and workbooks) updated correctly through XVS.

More than that though, it actually works! Like, this is the first time *ever* I've had a working profiler with Xamarin. So happy right now. :dancer: :tada:
