These orange tildes are worthless visual noise:


They should be removed. I can already see there are no more lines because the line numbers end. 

Remove the tildes.

Line numbers can be turned off. OTOH, so can the tildes. Maybe we could remove the setting for the tiles and only show them when the user disables line numbers.

These tildes are important for an old VI user like me.

 I'm scared of all the empty space at the end :) (Y i know that emacs users are a bit different there.)

But I've to admit that the default setting is a bit unlucky - I've changed it so that the red tildes don't appear until requested. 
(Maybe it would make sense bundling them with the vi mode, or something ? )
