Macdoc does not start anymore after installing updates. Obviously this is not Linux so there's no .xsession-errors, so how do I debug this?

Could you please check whether there is any message printed into the logs in ~/Library/Logs/MonoDevelop-2.8? There also may be messages printed into Console.app.

Looks like there's no output in the logs. How do I start the app from the command-line?

Only thing I can get out of it is this:

tsukuba:~ $ open -a MonoDoc
LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed for the application /Applications/MonoDevelop.app/Contents/MacOS/MonoDoc.app with error -10810.

Though that might be due to me doing it (cluelessly) wrong.

Weird, there should be something in the log.

You can start the application manually with
$ ./MonoDoc.app/Contents/MacOS/macdoc
Comment 4 Ruben Vermeersch 2012-03-29 11:38:06 UTC
tsukuba:MacOS $ ./MonoDoc.app/Contents/MacOS/macdoc
./MonoDoc.app/Contents/MacOS/macdoc: line 20: HOME: command not found
The assembly mscorlib.dll was not found or could not be loaded.
It should have been installed in the `/Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/2.10.8/lib/mono/4.0/mscorlib.dll' directory.
tsukuba:MacOS $ ls /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/2.10.9/lib/mono/4.0/mscorlib.dll

So this issue has been fixed, it was due to a packaging problem in MonoMac addin where mono binary would be hard copied instead of linked. A fixed version will be available in the next MonoDevelop.

In the meantime to workaround, delete the macdoc file in MonoDoc.app and replace it with a symlink to /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/Current/bin/mono while keeping the macdoc name. Same process for the internal wizard utility in MonoDoc.app/Contents/MacOS/AppleDocWizard.app/AppleDocWizard

Works like charm, thanks!
