# Steps to reproduce
Download and open: https://developer.xamarin.com/samples/mobile/BackgroundLocationDemo/
Under Main Screen directory click on MainViewController_iPhone.xib to open it in the designer
Designer shows a message saying that the .xib is in an older file format, and that asks you to update it.
Click on button to update
Once the designer loads, there is a blank screen - no .xib is displayed

Also, clicking on the MainViewController_iPhone.xib file gives you an error saying that 'This file format is not supported' It does not give an option to update and open in designer. The 'Copy Details' button on this error also does nothing.

(screenshots attached)
# Expected behavior
The .xib should display. I have confirmed in the designer.cs file that there are a number of labels that should be appear, they all have attached outlets.

The iphone xib really is empty. Xcode also displays it as empty.

The issue in iPad should be fixed too. We could trigger multiple simultaneous upgrades and our randomly generated path turned out to not be randomly generated - it was the same every time. This caused the conversion to randomly fail as the input file was deleted from the second (or subsequent) upgrade attempt while it was trying to use it :p

Fixed in version (master)
