Xamarin Studio shows rectangle instead of text. Note that reinstalling did not help

The error which may be causing the font problem is:
Pango-Critical: No modules found:
No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found.
PangoFc will not work correctly.
This probably means there was an error in the creation of:
You should create this file by running:
pango-querymodules > '/Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/4.2.1/etc/pango/pango.modules'
If you google search for "Pango-Critical: No modules found:" you can find other people who have fonts replaced with square boxes.
The stack trace is interesting since it looks like Xamarin Studio is using a 64 bit build of Mono.

Any mono errors on my Mac have the path starting with:
Although this is on Yosemite not El Capitan, which is where the Xamarin Studio logs are from.
Maybe the preview 32/64 bit Mono package has been installed. Might be worth installing the officially supported 32 bit version of Mono.
