When we any of these three:
1) Set the simulated bottom bar metrics to 'toolbar'
2) Click to enable the 'Shows Toolbar' option
3) Drop a Toolbar on a viewcontroller

We make the following xml modifications:
1) We add (or auto-generate) the XML for the toolbar to the view controller
2) We set the simulated metrics to be 'simulated toolbar'

This means that if you want the toolbar to disappear you need to ensure 'Shows Toolbar' is disabled and also that the simulated bottom bar metrics are set to 'Inferred', or whatever.

The only issue is that we didn't correctly update the property panel when the xml changed so it was not clear that the simulated metrics had been changed. That update issue is what we fixed.
