Description softlion 2015-11-05 12:19:41 UTC
After upgrading to 4.0 C6 (alpha channel) on both windows and mac,
on visual studio 2015 i connected the mac build host ok,
then opened an ios app solution,
cleaned then rebuilded it using CTRL-F5 (build+deploy).

Rebuild all succeeded message is displayed,
but VS is frozen and nothing happens on the mac build host.
Before 4.0 C6, i could killed the xamarin build host to unfreeze VS. Now i can't anymore.
Mac is an OSX El Capitan + XCode 7.1, and seems to do nothing.
Note that iCloud is not set up on this mac.

I killed VS2015, reopened the solution, Xamarin Mac Agent is "starting" then switched to "limited" then switched to "connected". The device list does not show any ios simulator anymore. Only Device.

I rebooted the mac.
On VS mac agent is "starting".
It never switched to "connected" again.

I rebooted windows 10 and rebooted the mac.
Opened visual studio, and connected the mac agent ok (it took about 30 sec!!)

I opened my solution in VS2015.
The xamarin bar displays the simulators. I choose iPhone 5s ios 9.1
I clicked Debug/Start without debugging.

And it works ok!

Each time Visual Studio 2015 crashes (for any reason: just killed it because GIT rebase hanged), then on next run the simulators are not displayed in the list of available devices.

And no way to recover without rebooting.

i managed to get the simulators back in the list by using this command:

> ps -eaf | grep Xamarin

It displays more than one IDB.exe agent.
I killed them all.

And VS instantly updated the device list with simualtors.

Moving to at least the C6SR1 milestone, needs further investigation but we're frozen on C6 so I can't put it on baseline right now, will try to get it assessed internally ASAP. Thanks for the report Benjamin!

This may be fixed with the latest fixes on XMA, but if we get a nice repro from logica I can get started right away.

I have checked this issue with latest C6 build and I am not able to reproduce this issue.
To reproduce this issue I have followed following steps:

1. Create/reopen a iOS application on VS.
2. Clean the solution.
3. Press Ctrl+F5 to build and deploy app.

Observed that application deploy successfully on simulator.

Now, I have followed same steps as mentioned in comment 7, at-least 3-4 times on 3 machines but still not able to reproduce as shown in screencast : http://www.screencast.com/t/KScTjkg87FX

Not sure what I am missing to reproduce this issue at my end.

@Softlion Could you please review my screencast and let me know if still I am missing any step to reproduce it.

Hi Benjamin,

We were unable to repro this issue.
Can you please confirm if you're still seeing this behavior with latest public versions?

Comment 10 softlion 2016-01-21 09:22:00 UTC
No more freeze in latest versions
