Using Xamarin Studio Mac [XS 5.10 Build 811, OS X 10.11 15A284] a series of "pads" are listed in the View menu. At any one time only some of the pads are actually active. See attached screenshot: In this screenshot, the "Unit tests" and "Document outline" pads are present, but the "properties" pad has been dismissed and the F# pad was never opened.
Steps to reproduce: Open any solution, click View->Pads
Expected behavior: I should see check marks next to the pads which are open. Most applications with optional palettes or "View" menus work that way.
Observed behavior: I just see a mess of pad names. It's confusing because if I want to add more pads, I don't know which ones are already open without scouring the screen.
It is not the first time this is discussed. In fact, we used to have checkmarks in those options, but we removed them when we added the ability to assign shortcuts to those commands. Using shortcuts to toggle pads is not very useful. What you really want is press a shortcut for a pad and make it visible and focused, no matter if it is already visible or hidden. That is, those options in the View menu are not "Toggle Pad", but "Show and focus Pad". If you want to hide a pad, you can just click on the close button.
That being said, we could add some kind of marker in the menu options to indicate that a pad is visible, so I'll leave this open as and enhancement.
Since Lluis has this bug on the radar, I'm changing the status to CONFIRMED to move this issue out of "Untriaged" query.
