Description Adam 2015-10-15 19:35:11 UTC
I recently tried out 1.5.1-pre2 on my Android project, I also upgraded the AppCompat and other related packages to their latest version 23.

It now doesn't create the Resource.Designer.cs properly and I get these errors.

11>\Trunk\MobileUI\Android\Resources\Resource.designer.cs(329,137,329,165): error CS0117: 'Resource.Color' does not contain a definition for 'abc_color_highlight_material'
11>\Trunk\MobileUI\Android\Resources\Resource.designer.cs(529,146,529,177): error CS0117: 'Resource.Drawable' does not contain a definition for 'abc_control_background_material'
11>\Trunk\MobileUI\Android\Resources\Resource.designer.cs(846,133,846,157): error CS0117: 'Resource.Style' does not contain a definition for 'Base_V23_Theme_AppCompat'
11>\Trunk\MobileUI\Android\Resources\Resource.designer.cs(847,139,847,169): error CS0117: 'Resource.Style' does not contain a definition for 'Base_V23_Theme_AppCompat_Light'

Please make sure you have the API 23 build tooling installed in your SDK manager and restart your IDE.
Comment 2 Adam 2015-10-15 23:02:55 UTC
I did install everything to the latest version including the build tooling from the Android SDK Manager. Screenshot attached to prove my claim :)

I will give it another attempt next week, i'm just pushing out the Android app shortly and don't want to play around with it at the moment.

I have the same problem. The Android SDK also seems up te date here.

I haven't gotten around to retesting this which is why I haven't closed this report just yet but apparently all you need to do is:

1. Set your compile target to API 23, you can still keep your minimum
2. Install version 23 of the SDK
3. Restart your IDE. (the step I forgot)

I just jumped back down to compile against API 22 for the time being, which also works fine.
Comment 8 Erik Renaud 2015-10-20 21:26:08 UTC
ok, got it working with api 23, had to get the sdk though, something I didn't even know I needed to do with forms...
Comment 9 Ed 2015-10-21 08:37:35 UTC
Got it working too with 23.
Comment 10 Adam 2015-10-26 20:35:02 UTC
This is not actually a bug, I have set it to resolved (apologies if I wasn't meant to do that but I can't find any rules on what I am allowed to set a status to)

Some additional things people had to do to get it working are listed in the Xamarin Forums link above.
