Description Sean Palmer 2015-10-02 10:56:09 UTC
Description of Problem:

There's no way to disable the intellisense identifier completion completely. This makes it impossible to use the code editor when project references are incomplete or broken (trust me, it happens) or when coding anything that involves code not written yet. It becomes an uphill battle fighting against the code completion interfering with almost everything typed. PLEASE let us disable it. Even when it works it can be annoying.

In Options under Text Editor, even with Enable On the fly Code Formatting, Insert Matching Brace, Show Completion List after a character is typed, and Automatically insert parenthesis after completion all turned off, I can still go to any .cs file and type new <space> and get a list of all visible identifiers (which for me is usually garbage because it's missing UnityEngine library due to other issues). Makes the editor completely un-usable and really really makes me mad that I can't disable it. No, I do not wish to need to press Escape every 2 seconds to clear the popup list (when I notice it's done something wrong) or Undo (when I failed to notice). The editor is supposed to help us, not get in the way.

I have a coding style formed long ago and by God I am not going to change how I write code just because an editor wants to "guide" me. I know what I want to write. You DO NOT. Stop interfering! My only solution presently that saves my sanity is to use a different code editor.

Go to Edit-> Enable Suggestion Mode for Completion

then code completion doesn't interfere any longer with what you typed.
