I have downloaded the latest version of the Monogame samples packages (https://github.com/CartBlanche/MonoGame-Samples) and try to open the iOS solution in Monodevelop 220.127.116.11 on my Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM.
MD states that it is loading the solution and eats 75% of CPU but never finishes loading. If I kill MD after a while and try to open the SLN file again, the file will be opened in HEX view and is no longer recognized as a valid solution file.
FYI: The Monogame team has fixed the solution and it can be opened again. Neverthelelss, Monodevelop should not lock up I think.
Do you know the revisions of MonoGame and MonoGame-Samples that you had the problem with?
I don't see anything about .sln or .csproj fixes in either module.
No, sorry. When retrying it I just downloaded the latest through GIT and it opened.

I would consider it resolved or lowest prio for now.
I can't reproduce the problem with MonoDevelop from git master, so presuming fixed.
