After resolving the issues described in Bug 32000, I got link errors when using upstream libgc (either 7.2f or 7.4.2)
on 64-bit Solaris 11/x86, although the issue is generic:
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
not in upstream gc 7.2f, 7.4.0
only in upstream 7.4.0
Given that the latter two aren't in gc 7.2f, that version isn't probably an option any longer, unlike for mono 3.2.6.
To work around this, I've gone for gc 7.4.2 instead, and used the attached patch to stub out the calls to the former
three functions in mono/metadata/boehm-gc.c, which allowed the links to complete.
