When you load an iOS application project in Visual Studio and the application's assembly name has a dot in it the dot is stripped out. If you try to add it back then it is removed after closing and reloading. This works in Xamarin Studio on a Mac.
FYI, I am aware that you can't have multiple dots, but it should be able to contain a single dot. It builds fine in Xamarin Studio with one dot. Visual Studio just keeps stripping it out.
To reproduce just create a new iOS project in Visual Studio and then edit the assembly name to be something like "Foo.Bar". Save, close, reload, and observe that the dot is gone (now it's just "FooBar"). Do the same in Xamarin Studio and the dot is not stripped.
I came across this today too and found that there is a messy history of related changes in the bug database.
I have accordingly filed a new bug that calls attention to that messy history itself, requesting that the next fix for this be planned carefully before any new implementation.
I will mark this bug as a duplicate of that new one to help tidy up the bug database.
