Having a space in Exported property name for a Custom Control causes build for device to fail in both VS and XS. Also in VS this causes the build host connection to be temporarily lost as well, though it reconnects on its own.
## Steps to reproduce
1. Open the attached test project in Xamarin Studio or Visual Studio. Issue occurs in both but the error messages are very different.
2. Deploy to iOS device (issue does not occur on simulator)
Expected result: App will build and deploy.
Actual Result: App build fails with the following errors in VS and XS:
>MTOUCH: Error MT4109: Failed to compile the generated registrar code. Please file a bug report at http://bugzilla.xamarin.com (MT4109) (SpaceInExportedProperty)
>Error 1 Failed to deploy application on the target device. Please try to rebuild the solution and try again. Xamarin.iOS Extension 0 0
Open the file SpaceInPropertyView.cs and remove the space from the Exported property:
Now launch the project to a device and the project will build and deploy as expected.

The part of the build output clearly shows error due to the space. Many messages along the lines of:

This is the Touch task part of the build output from visual Studio.
you can see that the connection is killed and that the registrar error that is shown in the XS build output is absent here.
@Jon, it's not clear what you see as the problem (or question).
[Export] must be _valid_ selectors (it's only used for interop with ObjC) and spaces are not supported in selector names. IOW using spaces will result in errors - and that's perfectly normal.
It happens at build time for devices because of the AOT (ahead of time) compilation, which includes compilation of some ObjC glue for the _static_ registrar. IOW errors are spotted because everything must be processed before deploying to devices.
For the simulator the JIT (just in time) compiler is used, so you'll have a runtime exception when the code is hit (jit'ed) and the _dynamic_ registrar tries to do it's job. IOW the errors are delayed until the execution requires that bit of code logic.
OK, I figured that would be the case about spaces being allowed. And I thought I had mentioned here in this bug report, but actually realized that I mentioned it in another related bug report that I thought at least there should be better error reporting on the Visual Studio side. My bad for not stating as much in this report
However I also realize that the poor error message on the VS side might be due to the fact that the MTouch task failing (I believe) kills the connection to the build host. (That I did note above). Neither the Build Output on the VS side nor the mtbserver logs show anything about a registrar error. I was only able to see that and figure out what the issue was when I tried to build the project in Xamarin Studio.
I will change this to a VS issue about the error message and the disconnection from the build host.
BTW the error message from mtouch will be better in XI 8.12.
This issue is not reproducible anymore, given that now the error message is more clear and it's the same that XS shows. It's very descriptive about the problem with the space character.
The new error message now looks like this:
error : Invalid character ' ' (0x20) found in selector 'Image view' for 'SpaceInExportedProperty.SpaceInPropertyView.get_Image()'
error : Invalid character ' ' (0x20) found in selector 'setImage view:' for 'SpaceInExportedProperty.SpaceInPropertyView.set_Image(UIKit.UIImage)'
Tested with latest master XVS (184.108.40.2060), hence closing the issue as Resolved > Not Reproducible
