Diagnostic Build Output and IDE Log
IPAs are not being built for iOS Classic API projects in Xamarin Studio. They are being built from Visual Studio.
I note that the Project Options page "iOS IPA Options" is missing from Xamarin Studio but still present in Visual Studio. However I did edit the .csproj file of the Classic API project to make sure that the
elements are present for the Release | iPhone Configuration.
## Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Xamarin Studio on a Mac and create a Classic API iOS project. I tested with a Universal Single View app template.
2. Open the .csproj file for the iOS project and add the following elements to the <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|iPhone' "> element:
3. Build the project in Release | iPhone configuration.
Expected result: An IPA file will be in the bin/iPhone/Release folder.
Actual result: No IPA file is in the folder.

In Xamarin Studio, go to the Project Options. Click on Build/General and then check the checkbox that says "Use MSBuild engine (unsupported for this project type)"
Ignore the warning, it shouldn't be there.
Now you will get IPA builds.
The Classic build system will no longer be supported in XS 6.0, so it's not worth re-adding this feature (which was removed because it was believed to be superfluous to the Publishing Workflow).
Visual Studio uses MSBuild, so just use that.
Using xbuild to build the solution from the command line does generate the IPA if the property is set on the command line:
xbuild /path/to/Solutoin.sln /property:BuildIpa=true /property:Configuration=Release /property:Platform=iPhone
or if the <BuildIpa>property is set in the .csproj file, doing a command line build without the BuildIpa property set also generates the IPA:
xbuild /path/to/Solution.sln /property:Configuration=Release /property:Platform=iPhone
However using mdtool form the command line to build does not generate the IPA (<BuildIpa> set to true in .csproj file for the Release|iPhone configuration")

The same command above used with a Unified API project, all other things being equal, does generate the IPA.
