The Visual Basic targets definition at $PREFIX/lib/mono/4.5/Microsoft.VisualBasic.targets (On my mac PREFIX was /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/4.0.0) appears to reference a non-exist assembly called Microsoft.Build.Tasks on Line 2:
- <UsingTask TaskName="Microsoft.Build.Tasks.CreateVisualBasicManifestResourceName" AssemblyName="Microsoft.Build.Tasks, Version=18.104.22.168, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/>
+ <UsingTask TaskName="Microsoft.Build.Tasks.CreateVisualBasicManifestResourceName" AssemblyName="Microsoft.Build.Tasks.v4.0, Version=22.214.171.124, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/>
And when I ran `xbuild` in QuickVB source dir (Well, the same as in https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=28912), the original unchanged one reported that CreateVisualBasicManifestResourceName failed because it couldn't find Microsoft.Build.Tasks, while using Microsoft.Build.Tasks.v4.0 instead does solve the problem.
I was still unable to build since Microsoft.Build.Tasks.v4.0.Vbc appears to be FAILED in xbuild. The assembly browser gave me a lot of [MonoTODO]s so it looks like part of another bug or so.
Well it seems to be a 4.0-alpha-specific problem. In my 3.8.0 prefix I got:
> Error executing task Vbc: Argument cannot be null.
with the actually existing Microsoft.Build.Tasks.dll. The output is identical to what was reported in bug #24461.
