Thank you for adding the twitter integration in MT 5. One thing that would make it even nicer if it had a built-in URL shortener. We may provide a tweet dynamic links depending on what links we have to add to a tweet and if it's too long it may not get added. You could build in an integration to bit.ly that we can supply our login/API key and the twitter client could automatically change a submitted long URL to a short URL.

This is really an application-level issue, and we are not likely going to add support for URL shorteners into the product itself.
You could use some of the URL shortening code from TweetStation if you want something that you can use right away.
