Perhaps this is already possible, and I just don't know how to do it (I suspect it involves project type GUIDs).
What I would like to do is this:
We have a Xamarin Studio Add-In (https://github.com/mcneel/RhinoMonodevelopAddin/releases) that is a Soft Debugger. I would like to set this debugger as a default debugger for a specific project type so that - when that csproj is loaded and I click the debug button - it runs using our Add-In.

Apologies if this ought to be posted on the forums instead, but I couldn't find anything there related to this issue.

All you can do is specify the default debugger for a specific command. This is done by overriding IsDefaultDebugger() here:

All you get however is the command, not the project. If you want to do something specific for a project you may need to implement you own command type.
