When exploring unfamiliar code, relying on the tool tip to show you information about a type isn't as helpful as it could be. The thing I find the most is that I can't tell from which namespace a type comes from. It would be nice if the tooltip included the namespace of the type.

If you hold Option while moving the mouse over a member, the tooltip will show namespace information. However, this is not very discoverable. Maybe the regular tooltip should include a message like "Hold Option for more information" or something like that. CCing to David and Vaclav, so that they can provide feedback.

I'll take a look at it.
Comment 3 Greg Munn 2014-10-30 15:02:43 UTC
I don't think you want to add in help text to the tool tip, that is very quickly just going to be noise for the user to filter out all the time.

I like that you can get the extra information about the file and line number, but for me the most useful is just to know what the namespace is.

Maybe you add in the additional line / file information if the user hovers longer (mmm).

As per comment 1, I am changing it's status to "Confirmed" and changing it's importance to "enhancement".
Comment 5 Nina 2015-05-07 14:42:14 UTC
I noticed this only works if you hold down option and THEN hover, but not if you hover and then press option. At the very least, could we fix this?
Comment 6 Vaclav Vancura 2015-05-07 14:42:58 UTC
Would it collide with anything else, like (potential) column selection mode?
Comment 7 Vaclav Vancura 2015-05-07 14:43:30 UTC
Also CTRL on Windows?
Comment 8 Vaclav Vancura 2015-05-07 16:37:14 UTC
So the final solution is this: we'll show only the simpler tooltip (probably with a shorter display delay) and there won't be any advanced tooltip.

We'll have a new Help pad (design pending) with all the advanced information you might be looking for (not only namespaces, but also overrides, compatibility notes etc.)

For now please don't do anything, as removal of the advanced tooltip before adding the Help pad would stop people to see the information they request. We'll continue as soon as the pad is ready.

See design issue at https://github.com/xamarin/design/issues/581
Comment 10 Mike Krüger 2015-05-13 01:28:13 UTC
@Nina: fixed

Other than that I set it not on roadmap since it's implemented as hidden feature and will be replaced in the future with another solution.
Comment 11 Mike Krüger 2015-05-13 01:28:43 UTC
note: no the key doesn't collide with anything else because it only affects tooltips and when doing selections tooltips shouldn't be shown :)
Comment 13 Mike Krüger 2015-05-18 10:23:01 UTC
implemented in roslyn branch.

I have checked this issue with latest C7 build:
XamarinStudio- Now this issue is working fine. Here is the screencast for the same:

Hence closing this issue.
