Error in Xamarin Studio about Xamarin.Mac license
I downloaded and installed Xamarin Studio. I downloaded Xamarin.Mac 1.1.0 and ran the installer. It installed correctly, but after I entered my license key, it hung when trying to activate. I canceled the activation and downloaded the license file manually, copying it to ~/Library/Xamarin.Mac/License. Now when building a project that uses Xamarin.Mac in Xamarin Studio, I get the message:
“The Unknown Edition of Xamarin.Mac does not support building outside of Xamarin Studio. Please go to https://store.xamarin.com to upgrade to the Business Edition.”
My license is for the Business Edition. This may be related to #23258.
There is a known issue with the unified installer where activation will freeze the dialog after it is successful. We are working on updating the installer.
The following steps should solve your issue.
Open Xamarin Studio.
Xamarin Studio -> Check for Updates
Download and install any updates.
Xamarin Studio -> Account
If you are not logged in, log in and you should see Xamarin.Mac licensed.
If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.
Let me know if that fixes the issue.
As a side note, since you have a business license, feel free to take advantage of http://xamarin.com/support next time for a faster response.
Ooops, didn't realize you were a Xamarin. Ignore that bit about support. Ping @chamons on hipchat directly.
Ping me on hipchat if you run into this again.
