Currently the only way I know to open these is from the command line on either Windows or Mac.
In Windows, you can open these tools with:
for DDMS and
for Device Monitor
In Terminal on the Mac, it seems these are added in an added path, so either
will start the tools.
On a Mac, the dock icons can be pinned to the dock for easy access later, but on Windows only Monitor app gives the option to Pin to the Task Bar, while DDMS does not.

what's the difference between the Device Monitor and Dalvik Debug Monitor - given you can't run them both at the same time?
Hey Jon, can you give me answer to comment#1 please. I'm not 100% sure what you're wanting done here.
You can resolve this. At the time I filed the bug I either did not see that menu option or did not exist in the version I was running at the time. I do recall that shortly after filing this bug that I then saw the menu option for the Device Monitor, so not sure whether I initially missed it or if it was added shortly thereafter. (DDMS, or the Dalvik Debug Monitor apparently is a deprecated versions of the device monitor).
