Description Peter Collins 2014-06-04 16:34:25 UTC
As part of the efforts towards reducing the XA installer size, we no longer install Mono.Android.Platform.apk into the various platform directories. This work is already complete on mac OSX in monodroid-4.14-series, but XamarinVS master is still installing these Mono.Android.Platform.apk files. Jonp believes we will need to update the windows installer to ensure we no longer package these files into the installer.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Xamarin\Android\platforms\*\Mono.Android.Platform.apk should not exist.

The timeline for this bug has changed and the installer should not be updated until the release _after_ 3.1

As part of this fix, the Windows installer should also remove duplicate assemblies, a'la:

For example, in 4.12.4, both of the following assemblies exist:

%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\MonoAndroid\v1.6\OpenTK.dll
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\MonoAndroid\v2.1\OpenTK.dll

Only the former is required, so you should be able to remove all the other copies of OpenTK.dll from the installer.

You will also need to update FrameworkList.xml to allow this this to work, by having the /FileList/@IncludeFramework attribute specify the previous framework. bundle.zip already contains these files with the appropriate contents, so you should be able to just copy them if you're not already doing so.

Furthermore, please ensure that Visual Studio works with this setup, e.g. Xamarin Studio does not (Bug #20402).

Moving to the Cycle 6 milestone.

Fixed XVS complaining about aapt not found when apk is missing in caches via:

Fix is in master, so targeted for Cycle 6. XVS is now working perfectly with this setup (#c2)

Marking as fixed as per Comment 6
