Description Jon Dick 2014-05-21 18:03:21 UTC
By default if I name my android app say My.App the package name will be the same by default.

However, if you try to add GCM capabilities, let's say using the GCM.Client component (http://components.xamarin.com/view/GCMClient), when the permissions for GCM get added, and your package name does not start with a lowercase character, you will receive a deployment error like this poor fellow: http://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/16934/azure-messaging-problem-with-installing-apk#latest

Long story short is, you can't have an upper case character to start your package name if you want to use GCM. This is a problem on Java as well, it's not just a problem with our platform.

So, to avoid this type of situation, can we change the default package name that gets generated to at least lowercase the first character?

We have checked and observing same behavior. After adding GCM.Client component we are getting deployment error:

Deployment failed because of an internal error: Unexpected install output: pkg: /data/local/tmp/My.App1-Signed.apk
