Description Andy 2014-01-20 11:46:31 UTC
Happens now and then. I'm using xcassets but iTunes images are outside those.

They are fine until I open the property page in VS. Then at least one is lost.

Actually, at times, it just doesn't show one image. I believe that if I don't modify the properties, it doesn't save the configuration without the image that didn't manage to load.

Hi Andy,
I'm afraid comment 2 does not make sense to me. Could you please provide more explicit steps to reproduce the issue and clarify what you mean in comment 2.

On Mac
Create project
Add resources as asset catalogs
Add resources for iTunes images (2)

Open project
Open properties
Open page that includes iTunes images
Either one or both is missing
If you don't modify anything I guess the project file isn't saved so the two images are still there if you open it on the Mac
If you modify something, you lose what's not shown.

This is the same exact problem I had with project resources, before using asset catalogs.
The VS plugin just doesn't load some stuff and if you save the project after modifying something you're screwed.

I know it happened a few times to me before I understood what it was, because it actually even got published on the AppStore !!! Since I didn't touch anything I assumed I shouldn't check resources every single time I submit the app, but xamarin as usual screwed my app which was published with missing icons (fall backs were loaded and it looked crappy)

This is typical of xamarin bugs, they makes developing apps a nightmare. After checking all my code I have to double check all the stuff that xamarin manages...

Is this a duplicate of #17061?

As mentioned in that other bugzilla, Asset Catalogs are not currently supported in iOS.VS, so adding them on the Mac side, then opening that same project on the Windows side, is an untested scenario, which would seem to explain your unpredictable results.

If you plan to use Asset Catalogs, then you will need to stick to using Xamarin Studio until Asset Catalogs support is implemented in iOS.VS

If you have an issue with Asset Catalogs or Resource handling in Xamarin Studio, then that will need to be taken up with that XS team.

Look, it's still the old problem:

I can't use plain old resources, because of the similar bug that randomly inverts ios 6 and 7 icons and also deletes my resources, and hasn't been sorted out. So I was recommended to use asset catalogs as a workaround by you. And now you tell me I can't. So there is no way to use it.

Besides, please note that this deleting if resources happened BEFORE using asset catalogs too.

I am really losing my mind here...
Comment 6 Dominique Louis 2014-01-20 14:29:02 UTC
Andy, "I" personally recommended you use asset catalogs? Please point out where I did this, as I have no recollection of this and as a result I would find this quite alarming as VS has never supported this feature! If it is someone from my team that has recommended this, then I'd like to know whom that was.

Could you please link to the bugzilla that refers to the bug related to "randomly
inverts ios 6 and 7 icons and also deletes my resources"? I will follow the steps outlined in that bugzilla to try to repro the issue here.
Comment 7 Andy 2014-01-20 14:36:14 UTC
It's you as in "you guys from xamarin".

I'll try to find what you ask among the 100 bugs or so I reported, the next time I launch the usual 15 minutes workaround build on XS.

Lately I'm basically working on bugzilla...

Comment 9 Andy 2014-01-21 05:11:43 UTC
Are you sure ? It somehow happened even before using Asset Catalog...
