failure message displayed by nuget package manager

I am having trouble running my application when it uses System.Net.Http in a PCL, specifically with Decompression methods.

My application has a PCL that handles interaction with an Azure cloud server. This PCL references the Nuget “Microsoft HTTP Client Libraries” package.

When I try to use an HttpClientHandler with AutomaticDecompression turned on, I get this exception:

01-09 14:40:16.817 E/mono ( 8680): Unhandled Exception:
01-09 14:40:16.817 E/mono ( 8680): System.AggregateException: ---> System.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'System.Net.Http.HttpClientHandler.set_AutomaticDecompression'.

I saw this blog post that maybe promised to solve the problem:

So I went to try this, but when I attempted to reference the Microsoft HTTP client library into my solution using Nuget package manager, I got an error screen ( see attached image )

I tried my code with the stock System.Net.Http assembly referenced, but I still got the error.

I am able to run my code only by changing this:

// enable compression
handler.AutomaticDecompression = DecompressionMethods.GZip;

to this:

// enable compression
//handler.AutomaticDecompression = DecompressionMethods.GZip;

I have unable to reproduce this issue below are the followed steps:

1 Create sample android project
2. Created PCL project and added below code into a method in a PCL class:

var handler = new HttpClientHandler();
handler.AutomaticDecompression = DecompressionMethods.GZip |

var httpClient = new HttpClient(handler);
var str = await httpClient.GetStringAsync("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gzip");

3. Called this into android sample.
4. Debug application successfully.

Refer Screencast "http://screencast.com/t/9I3DShoC"

Could you please check if I miss some steps.

Checked With:
Windows 8
VS 13
XS 4.12.00003

Fires with LinqToTwitter 3.0.4 as well on iOS (library uses that method).

I am having the same issue. Are there any updates that?
Comment 6 Joaquin Jares 2015-11-03 14:25:50 UTC
Moving the bug to Android, as this looks like a framework bug.
Comment 7 kevinsalot 2016-02-04 14:58:21 UTC
I'm also experiencing the same behavior on iOS (as well as Android, already mentioned here). A PCL I'm using (RestSharp.Portable 3.1) tries to leverage the missing call.

Comment 10 Paul Johnson 2017-02-12 14:19:48 UTC
I'm getting this too - not sure, but it seems to be related to setting the content type.
Comment 11 spam1 2017-03-06 00:09:39 UTC
I encountered this issue today also, and a web search brought me here. Anyone find a workaround for this?
Comment 12 Paul Johnson 2017-03-06 02:04:09 UTC
#11 - out of interest, are you using x-www-form-urlencoded when sending?
