messages or log files if you are hitting an issue that looks similar to
this resolved bug and you do not yet see a matching new report.
When clicking the "Check for Updates" menu in MonoDevelop 2.8.1, updates are downloaded and installed without asking for confirmation by the user. This is not good expecially when Beta or Alfa are active. Monodevelop should ask for confirmation before downloading the new files or, at least, before installing them. Updates file for Mono, MonoDevelop, MonoTouch, etc. are not clearly labelled in the download manager: they look like regular updates even if they are Beta or Alfa.
MonoDevelop does ask for confirmation before installing. The labeling issue is already fixed.
MonoDevelop should probably ask for confirmation before *downloading* any updates too or have a way of toggling auto-download.
