I have added Paolo to this bug to review the comment.

But the MSDN documentation looks wrong, since \ is never a valid path separator on Unix.

Could you describe what problem you have?   Perhaps the source of the problem is elsewhere

The calling code is incorrect, because the name "parent\file.txt" is a valid filename on Unix, that means that it is not a file called "file.txt" under the parent directory, it is actually a file called parent\file.txt (all 15 characters).

The proper fix is for your code to use Path.Combine instead of hardcoding the use slashes in the code
