If you look at the attached screenshot, you can see that only the first characters on lines 25, 26, and 34 are selected. The cursor was to the right of the brace on line 34. If the cursor was, say, over the column where the "o" in override is on line 25, but on line 34, I'd expect to see the selected rectangle go from the "p" in public on line 25 to that column plus eight characters on line 34.

What could be happening is the select algorithm is limiting the region to the last column on the line. When the "Alt+Shift" modifier is used, I think the algorithm should just pad lines that are shorter than the current column the cursor is over with spaces.

This would require that the caret can move beyond the end of the line
