Description Sebestyen Balazs 2013-06-06 05:34:10 UTC
Chinese text input (simplified and traditional) doesn't work on Win8. The IME is disabled.
Eg.: It works on Win7, and Japanese and Korean also work on Win8 too.

On Win8, Chinese (Simplified, China) works for me.

Can you provide more information about what doesn't work, and in what context?

IME system tray icon is disabled (there is a gray X, and the tooltip sais: "IME is disabled"). I had the above experience with Xamarin Studio and also with GTK# apps which were created by Xanarin Studio. I used English localization with Chinese language.

According to http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/f2904a67-b754-40dc-84bb-080ffa6d611e/windows-8-ms-chinese-ime this problem occurs in Windows 8 when the app's UI is not running in a STA thread.

Fortunately XS was moved to an STA model recently, which is why I could not reproduce it: https://github.com/mono/monodevelop/commit/e373417ac63f89b4d43ede578c8b7aa6b6b7dfe6

I was able to reproduce it with XS 4.0.9, which was branched shortly before this fix was made.
