Crash Report

To reproduce:

- Start Xamarin Studio, open an iOS project.
- Right-click Components in project and Get More Components, so the embedded component browser appears.
- Click on a component, maybe click the Buy button but without actually buying something.
- Leave window open, go do something else on different machine for an hour or so.

Xamarin Studio will just get killed and the standard crash reporter UI comes up and the Mac will run really slow as everything needs to be paged out of swap.

Of course, leaving this window open isn't generally a thing to do, but seems a little odd that the application being idle would suddenly consume copious amounts of memory. The Mac Mini it runs on has 4 GB RAM.

Using Xamarin Studio 4.0.5

Attached are log files and the crash report.

Ran some simple tests monitoring the memory use with the Activity monitor. This was with an iOS project open, the Get More Components page open and the Buy button had been clicked. There seemed to be a increase in memory of a few MB after an hour.

XS 5.9.4, Mono 4.2 (Mavericks):

Memory: 235.4MB
Real Mem: 297.9MB
Private Mem: 197.6MB
Shared Mem: 83.3MB

1 hour later:

Memory: 243.3MB (Increase 7.9MB)
Real Mem: 305.8MB
Private Mem: 202.1MB
Shared Mem: 83.3MB

XS 5.9.4, Mono 4.0 (Yosemite):

Memory: 448.9MB
Real: 414.5MB
Private: 315MB
Shared: 50.2MB

Yosemite 1 hour later:

Memory: 450.7MB (1.8MB)
Real: 416.4MB
Private: 317.2MB
Shared: 50.4MB

Also tried a similar test on Mavericks with an iOS project open, no files open and the component window not displayed, and the memory did not increase.

Do we know where the memory usage is coming from?

Perhaps using Instruments with an AOTed set of Xamarin Studio assemblies we can get a better reading of where the memory is going to.
