Simple app that fails on Mac Xamarin Studio
I'm using Xamarin Studio 4.0.4 and Xamarin Android 4.6.4. When I try to build the attached project, it works fine with Visual Studio or Xamarin Studio on Windows. However, it fails with Xamarin Studio on the Mac saying: Error initializing task FileCreatedToday: Not registered task FileCreatedToday. Other similar bugs I've found refer to using ProjectGroup (4092, resolved) or ItemGroup (1862). But this problem is outside of the PropertyGroup and ItemGroup elements. Bug 6754 sounds similiar, but has not been updated for 9 months.
@Grant: On Windows, the .NET MSBuild tool is used. On OS X, Mono's xbuild is used.
xbuild is currently only compatible with MSBuild/.NET 2.0. You're attempting to use Inline Tasks, which are a .NET 3.5 feature, and are not currently supported.
MSDN walkthrough on inline tasks:
Just to clarify - xbuild does *some* MSBuild 3.5 and 4.0 features.
is there an ETA on when inline tasks could be supported by xbuild?
Here is a sample task that we'd like to implement.
<UsingTask TaskName="CreateAssemblyMinorVersion" TaskFactory="CodeTaskFactory" AssemblyFile="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.Build.Tasks.v4.0.dll">
<AssemblyMinorVersion Output="true" />
<Code Type="Fragment" Langauge="cs">
AssemblyMinorVersion = (System.DateTime.Now.Year - 2013).ToString();
No ETA at this time - we have many bigger fish to fry - but if this is important to you you're welcome to contribute it.
Are there any plans to fix this as XS is being deprecated?
We deprecated xbuild and recommend using msbuild instead. Switching to msbuild will also most likely resolve the issue you reported.
