In visual studio you can use left and right to expand the "tree" of a given varaible's internal variables/base classes/etc.
There does't appear to be a keyboard shortcut for that in Xamarin studio.
You can use Shift+Right or Shift+Left to expand/collapse nodes in a tree view in Xamarin Studio
possibly we should consider making it work with just left/right, but I'm not sure...
I think Gtk+ (the widget toolkit we've been using) uses plain Right & Left to navigate between cells in a multi-column tree/list, so this may take some consideration.

okay, so one of our potential GSoC students just worked with me on implementing Left/RightArrow support in the Watch and Locals pads, so this all works nicely now.
I expect this fix to make it into 4.0.6 (subject to change if we make any emergency hotfix releases)
