this resolved bug and you do not yet see a matching new report.
How to reproduce:
using vs2012 (update.2)
add a new android layout
add an imageview and set the src attribute to a drawable png previously added as drawable resource.
in the properties toolbox, the "tint" cell does not accept input (even if it shows a drop down list)
if an item is selected in the dropdownlist, the attribute is visible in the xml source view android:tint="#fff"
Also, the tint is not applied in the design window.
What i was waiting for:
attribute set in the properties window, so it reflect what is in the xml view
tint applied in the design window (it should use imageView.SetColorFilter(Color))
This bug can be better addressed by breaking it into two parts. While the selected tint does not appear in the properties window or visibly on the designer view, it is applied in XML source and can be verified by deploying to device or emulator. The remaining issues are:
1) The selected tint value does not display in the properties window after selecting a value from the drop-down: http://screencast.com/t/YWKbJTN1UY3
2) The selected tint does not display in the designer view. I filed this as an enhancement for our Android Designer - Bug #12227
Closing as using Android Studio designer with XamarIdea is much much faster and works fine
