Opening a GTK# UI file in Xamarin will open the file in the GUI Designer. At the bottom of the designer, there are several "tabs" available to choose how to show your UI: Source, Designer, Changes, Blame, Log, Merge. Designer is the default view and shows you the editable visual representation of your UI.
If you click away from Designer to any of the other selections, clicking back to the Designer selections will sometimes result in a blank screen. The widget drop down is still available (and properly populated), but no UI appears and selecting a widget from the drop down has no effect. Closing and reopening the file will often fix the problem, as will tabbing between open files. The work arounds are not reliable, however, and this results in a lot of flailing to attempt to fix this issue.
This occurs on both Mac and Windows versions of Xamarin Studio.
