Visual Studio/Xamarin Studio Android Designer does not show TextView (or hides it) when the TextStyle is ITALIC. (Normal and Bold work fine)
Publishing the app to the emulator or device will show the textview properly.
Steps to reproduce:
- Create a new Android Project using Visual Studio or Xamarin Studio
- Open Main.axml
- Make sure Android 4.0 (v14) is selected.
- Add a new TextView
- Change its "textStyle" to "italic"
- At this point everything should look right.
- Change to Android 2.3 or 3.1
- The TextView will disappear. (Some times, the designer crashes, but it is not always)

This is a bug in the Android SDK. See https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22867
I fear we can't do much about it, we completely depend on the Android SDK for rendering the designer surface.
