Description Miha Markic 2013-03-08 13:37:59 UTC
Xamarin Studio won't run asp.net mvc 3 using xsp4 - "cannot start web server" for some reason.

Repro: Create new asp.net mvc 3 project (and correct references to system.web.*) and run it.

This is only when you change the target runtime to Mono?
Comment 2 Miha Markic 2013-03-08 16:01:53 UTC
Yes, only for mono.
(If I run it under .net it yields another exception (that doesn't work with CorDebugger).)
Comment 3 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2013-03-08 16:12:42 UTC
On Mono 2.10.x, xsp4.exe is in:
Unix: lib/mono/4.0/xsp4.exe
Win32: lib/mono/4.0/winhack/xsp4.exe

On Mono 3.0.6, xsp4.exe is in:
Unix: lib/mono/4.5/xsp4.exe
Win32: lib/mono/4.0/winhack/xsp4.exe

It looks like the win32 package was not updated to track the new xsp4.exe location.

FWIW if anyone's interested in submitting a patch to MD to work around this, the xsp location detection code is here:

Looks like Xamarin Studio is searching for xsp4 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mono-3.0.6\lib\mono\4.5\winhack folder for some reason (probably because I references System.Web.Mvc and System.Web.WebPages assemblies from there.

Basically copying winhack folder to 4.5 folder does the trick.
Comment 6 Pallavi 2014-12-05 04:37:13 UTC
yeah, copying the winhack to usr/lib/mono/4.5 got it running.
thanks @Miha

This has been fixed in the 3.12 windows packages.
