Description Ozge Yavuz 2013-03-06 22:22:24 UTC
Design / Code button does not show un in VS11. Only way to swap between AXML and the designer view is to use Open With which forces the document closed and reopened.

This is happening with 4.6 release.

Screen capture attached.

Hi, could you please try the following?

* Start Visual Studio. Don't open the android project yet.
* Open the Windows task manager (right click on the dock bar)
* In the task manager, look for the devenv.exe, right click on it and select Debug. Then select new instance of VS
* A new instance of VS will be started, showing some output in the output window.
* Now go the the first instance of VS and open an Android project, and then open an axml file in the designer.
* In the second instance of VS you'll get more output. Please copy all of that and attach it here.

I noticed this issue too.

It was working fine when I had VS2010 and VS2012 installed in the machine, but after reinstalling the whole OS with ONLY VS2012, that no longer works.

The same goes with pretty much any icon in the Android or iOS tool bars (but I think that is a known issue)

I will attach the output log.

Hi Daniel,

This is a replacement dll I'd like you to try:

It should replace to one you'll find here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin\Xamarin.Android\4.6.00049

Make sure you make a copy of the old dll, so that you can revert the change. After replacing the dll, please do again the debug output capture I described above. This probably won't fix the issue, but it should provide more diagnostic information.
Comment 6 Daniel 2013-04-04 14:21:37 UTC
I had to save it in "c:\Program Files (x86)" because I have Windows x64.

I will attach the output.

Thank you!

Plug In Folder Contents

This folder contains the ORIGINAL dll files. The debug DLL is been renamed as .BAK

I'm having no luck reproducing this issue. Could you please attach all version information of Visual Studio? (use the Copy Info button in the about box of VS).

One more thing... It used to work fine when I had Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 installed in the same machine.

Just in case... this is a ScreenCast: http://screencast.com/t/XWel8yihfEs

After formatting the computer and installing ONLY VS 2012, that option stop working.

Like a month ago, in a different computer, I had VS 2012 (ONLY) and the buttons in the tools bar (Android and iOS) did not work. I had to install VS2010, reinstall VS2012 and Xamarin to make them work.

I read somewhere that that was a known issue but I do not know if that is related with this issue or not.

Wrong screencast... this is the correct one: http://screencast.com/t/YcZceq63azea

Hi, I reported that I could reproduce this on our current beta erroneously. I apologize for any confusion. I will make that comment private to hide my shame.

The behavior is fixed on the current beta, and you can get the build directly from http://download.xamarin.com/MonoforAndroid/Windows/mono-android-4.6.02001.msi

Hope this helps!
